on the Divergence Series, we have the legend that is Trevor Fung. Trevor began his DJing career at 16 and was quickly earning a reputation for his taste and knowledge of both UK and American Soul, Funk, and Jazz. In 1979 Trevor went away on a holiday to Ibiza, where he got to experience The Café Del Mar for the first time. In 1983 through his European tastes and connections, Trevor was invited to be a resident at Amnesia in Ibiza to spin his eclectic style of dance music.
Later in the summer of 1987, Trevor took ‘The Project Club’ concept over to Ibiza where he and Ian St Paul opened a bar in San Antonio, playing an unusual combination of Hip Hop, Indie, Acid, and House music, Trevor had incorporated his own unique style. This later became known within the music press as ‘Balearic Beat’, later he collaborated with FFRR and Pete Tong for the infamous Balearic Beats Album.
In 1988, Paul Oakenfold, Johnny Walker, Danny Rampling, and Nicky Holloway were so inspired after seeing Trevor play at The Project Club and Amnesia, they wanted to change the future of London’s club scene by launching seminal nights such as: ‘The Future’, ‘Spectrum’, ‘Shroom’, ‘Enter The Dragon’, ‘The Land Of Oz’, ‘Rage’ and ‘Trip’ -and the rest they say is history.
Trevor is now an Ambassador for ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’ which is a charitable foundation creating opportunities & fundraising initiatives to enable the dance music industry to make a positive impact in support of children in crisis around the world.
In this Mix, Trevor takes us off on a journey through Deep House licks, to Acid ladened Detroit sounds, to downright dirty dancefloor Techno stompers.
